07 - Central Mgmt Tab

SubTopics Mode Selection (Slaves) | Mode Selection (Master) | Slave Configuration (Master) | Bottom

In a multi-iPrism environment, the System Central Mgmt tab makes it easy to automatically propagate configuration settings (like profiles) from a Master iPrism to other iPrism units (slaves), as those changes are made.  iPrism specific settings like IP address are not included.

Each iPrism unit (master and slaves) should already be installed and at least minimally configured using the Installation Wizard.  Keep in mind the following:

Note: First, slave units should be configured as such using Mode Selection; when all slave units are configured, then configure the Master using Mode Selection and identify one or more slaves to share configuration data with using Slave Configuration (see all below).

Mode Selection (Slave Units)

  1. From System Central Mgmt Mode Selection frame, select Slave from the Mode pick-list.

ADM147a - Slave Mode Selection

  1. Repeat this on each iPrism unit to be configured as a slave.

Mode Selection (Master)

First, set the iPrism unit to be a Master, then perform Slave Configuration (see next).

  1. From System Central Mgmt Mode Selection frame, select Master from the Mode pick-list.

ADM147b - Master Mode Selection

  1. Optionally, in the Connection Timeout field, enter the timeout setting (for the Master iPrism unit only). When propagating configuration data, the connection timeout of 5 seconds means the master will give up on the connection in 5 seconds. For longer latencies, increase the timeout value.

  2. Optionally, you can protect the central managment settings from change by locking them using a Password  To confirm the password, Re-enter it in Password Confirmation.

  3. Update and Force are used once slaves have been added (see Slave Configuration below).  Update pushes the configuration immediately, Force pushes the configuration upon System Configuration exit.  Either option is more immediate than the default periodic push of approximately 15 minutes after System Configuration exit.

Note: Once the Master Mode is selected, simply continue with Slave Configuration (see next).

Tip: In the event an existing Master fails (i.e., hardware issues), an up-to-date slave can be selected as the new Master using the Mode pick-list.

Slave Configuration (Master)

  1. In the Slave Configuration frame, click the Add button.

  2. In the Adding Item frame, enter the IP Address of the slave device in the Address field.

ADM147c - Adding Slave Units to the Master

  1. Click OK to add the IP address to the iPrism Systems list (on the left). Add more slave units as necessary.

Note: To add a new slave unit later, simply install the iPrism and run the Installation Wizard, then add the unit to your existing list. To remove a slave unit, select it and Delete. You should re-configure the unit as a standalone.
